Course Description

Essential Skills of Communicating focuses on the essential skills necessary for developing trust and respect, enabling team leaders to get the best from their team members.
Team leader/manager will learn to design clear, concise messages. Team leaders and managers will learn to organise their thoughts and speak to each team member's level of understanding.
Voice tone, intonation, facial expressions, gestures and posture are some of the non-verbal factors that supervisors and managers must understand and learn to use in order to communicate effectively.
There can be no effective communication without effective listening which includes the abilities to reflect, probe, support and advise. Finally, listening skills are emphasised with a specific focus: using listening as a motivational tool. Actively listening to team members enables the team leader to engineer motivation for more effective and productive performance. It will also enable them to start to develop individual accountability at all levels by helping people to manage and motivate themselves on an ongoing basis.
There are many kinds of psychological, cultural and situational barriers to understanding. Team leaders and managers must learn to use the feedback process to overcome barriers and enhance bi-directional communication.
One of the objectives of the training is to create a culture of trust and participation (which together form the basis for effective management and empowerment of people).
The skills developed in Essential Skills of Communicating form the foundation for developing
harmonious and productive relations with team members based on mutual respect and trust.
